This is an ongoing project documenting scenes from Calabar that still carry something familiar—landmarks, textures, and quiet details that hold memory without needing to explain themselves. The images aren’t about nostalgia exactly, but about presence: what’s still here, and what it feels like to see it now.

Many of the places I’ve tried to photograph have changed. Some have fallen into disrepair, others have been renovated beyond recognition. Both conditions risk telling a story I’m not interested in: one of disappearance or erasure. Instead, I’m drawn to what continues to hold meaning, not just for me, but for anyone familiar with the city’s past. The goal isn’t to recreate a version of Calabar that no longer exists, but to notice what remains, and what it still carries.
